Information collection

We collect "Non-Personal Information" and "Personal Information". Non-Personal Information includes information that cannot be used to personally identify you, such as anonymous usage data, general demographic information we may collect, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, preferences you submit and preferences that are generated based on the data you submit and number of clicks.

Personal Information includes only your email and first and last names, which you may choose to submit to us for the purposes of feedback. We may use your email to send you an occasional message regarding your query, or major changes of the VidMarkr application. We do not share Personal Information with third parties except those used to facilitate the process of communicating with you.

What we collect and what we use it for

When you write to us with a question, to provide feedback, or to ask for help: We keep that correspondence, which includes the email address, so that we have a history of past correspondences to reference if you reach out in the future. We use this data solely in connection with answering the queries we receive.

When visiting the VidMarkr homepage (www.vidmarkr.com or vidmarkr.com): We use a third party content delivery service (cloudflare.com) in order to deliver the content of the website to you. Cloudflare uses cookies in order to provide analytic data to us about usage and performance of the website. Data collected includes referral sources, top pages, information from the devices (device type, operating system, country and browser) used during the visit and more. You can see their Privacy Policy here.

When visiting the VidMarkr homepage (www.vidmarkr.com or vidmarkr.com): We use a third party analytics service (plausible.io) in order to provide analytic data about usage and performance of the website. However Plausible Analytics do this without the use of cookies. Data collected includes referral sources, top pages, information from the devices (device type, operating system, country and browser) used during the visit and more. You can see their Privacy Policy here.

When using the VidMarkr web application or Android application: We use a third party error-logging service (sentry.io) in order to track errors and performance issues as they arise. We also track usage of a small number of individual features of the app, without any personally identifying information. You can see their Privacy Policy here.

We use a third party content delivery service (cloudflare.com) in order to provide information regarding updates, and to provide content metadata such as podcast and data for VidMarkr feeds. Cloudflare uses IP address data in order to provide analytic data to us about usage and performance of the service. You can see their Privacy Policy here.

If you choose to store your VidMarkr data using your own Dropbox account, we use the Dropbox API (dropbox.com) in order to access and store your data, directly from your device. Hence we have no access to the content of your VidMarkr data or metadata. VidMarkr (running on your device) is restricted to accessing its own dedicated Dropbox App Folder (in accordance with Dropbox's own permissions model) and hence can not access any other data in your Dropbox (unless you have publicly shared that other data using Dropbox's own applications). You can see their Privacy Policy here.

Encryption

VidMarkr implements multiple layers of encryption, including optional full end-to-end zero-knowledge encryption. Item data is encrypted client-side before syncing the encrypted data to Dropbox. VidMarkr has three levels of encryption:

  1. Global: By default VidMarkr Premium uses a global encryption key, which protects your data against naive attackers but is potentially possible to reverse engineer, and it is theoretically possible for us (the development team members) to read this data.
  2. Library password: You can optionally set a password to encrypt your data with both Vidmarkr Standard and Premium services. This password is only cached on your own client device in browser-level storage (IndexedDB) in a way that it is not exportable. If you use this option, nobody (including us) can decrypt your data.
  3. Feed passwords: You can optionally set passwords on individual published feeds. This is useful if you only want the added security on a specific feed that you share with someone.
